Iglesia Convento la Purísima

This church is associated to a historical fact, that is, the Miracle of the Purísima.

By the end of XVI century, on November 17th, 1585, an unusual event took place. According to the legend, some pirate ships disembarked on the coast of Mazarrón to plunder the city, but the mediation of the virgin prevented it. In the XVII century, the franciscans from San Pedro de Alcántara founded a convent.

Regarding the Church, the most important part is the lateral chapel, which is to be believed to be an old shrine from XVI century, although later works come from XVIII century to its current aspect. The niche of the Virgin has a unique decoration.
