San Antonio de Padua Church

XVI - XVII centuries • Directions

At the foot of the Los Vélez castle, inside the population hub around it, the Church from San Antonio de Padua is located, next to the San Andrés temple (XVI century).

This church was built in the second hand of XVI century, ordered by Marquis of Los Vélez, in order to facilitate religious cults for his workers. This temple is a very simple construction and had several alterations over the years, especially in XIX and XX Centuries, with the construction of a bell tower, a sacristy, and modifications in the crossing cupola.

During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the baroque raredo and some altarpieces were destroyed and replaced. In the inner part, we can see the decoration in the pendentives of the crossing cupola, with pictures of saints. The main façade has a niche from San Antonio de Padua and the badge from Casa de los Vélez.
