The Torre de los Caballos, in Bolnuevo, was built in the XVI century, some years after the tower off the Cumbre del Puerto de Mazarrón, and have the same function, that is, to take control of that part of the coast to prevent Berber attacks, very frequent during that era.
Its mere existence guaranteed fishing activities without any risks in the cove. Over time, the tower had numerous remodeling works, some of them under the alteration programs in the coast towers during the XVIII century.
In mid XX century, a shrine dedicated to the Purísima Concepción was added, honoring the famous Milagro de la Virgen (Miracle of the Virgin), although before the construction of the hermitage there were some side houses already built. The site is declared Asset of Cultural Interest.
